Balto in New York's Central Park

Balto was a courageous sled dog who lived in Alaska. In 1925, he led a team of sled dogs with amazing speed through a blizzard to bring the life saving diphtheria antitoxin to the victims of a diphtheria epidemic. Frederick Roth sculpted a statue of Balto that same year and placed it in Central Park. You can view Balto's statue on the path near the children's zoo.
